The Simba Friends Foundation, Teshie Group of Ghana held an important community meeting on February 10th to discuss the MDGs.
They were able to identify several problems in their community that need addressing, including a lack of potable water, high rate of youth unemployment, a low standard of living, lack of sex eduation, high rate of teenage pregnancy, lack of educational facilities and a lack of environmental sustainability.
International Day of Peace

One Word Youth Project was invited by the United Nations to participate in the International Day of Peace.
OWYP president & founder, Jessica Rimington, addressed the Messengers of Peace. OWYP students from Liberia participated via video conference and OWYP students from Massachusetts traveled to the UN for the event where they were joined by Project Ambassadors, Tina Huang and Blair Kauffman.

The students of Caistor Central Public School in Ontario Canada run a button campaign to raise awareness and money to improve maternal health. The students sold 530 buttons in just 4 days and raised over $1160 for Community Care and Stephen Lewis Foundation!

Students from The Riverside School in Vermont meet with a new friend from Nigeria
After reading an article recently published in The Caledonian Record about The Riverside School's cultural exchange with Nigeria a local citizen contacted the school to tell them that a Nigerian friend of his was visiting the area and would be interested in coming to speak with the students. Eki Abugo visited the class to talk about her experiences. Abugo is a fashion designer and business owner in Lagos, Nigeria. Abugo spoke of her impression of American freedoms and of the natural motivation that Nigerians have to take advantage of every opportunity presented to them. Abugo promised to personally carry the Riverside students greetings and the story of her visit to our class, directly to their sister-school group in Nigeria.
OWYP groups participate in Human Rights Events!
The Youth for Human Rights group of Paynesville, Liberia presented a forum on the Universal Declaration of Human Rights at the William Tubman High School on January 26th.

The program was very well received by students and faculty alike and the YHRI Liberia group is making arrangements to establish a human rights club at the school.
Students from the OWYP group at the Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich, Massachusetts, USA spoke out about the MDGs at the recent Barnstable County Human Rights Academy Workshop
