Julia  answers students questions!

One World Youth Project participants submitted the following questions.

Did you have a role model when you were young? Who, and how did they influence you to do the things you are doing?

Julia:  Growing up, I had more models of what I did NOT want to be than what I did want to be. I experienced a lot of violence, oppression, and sadness growing up, along with great moments of joy and support, but overall I never felt like I had someone to look to as a role model. Now some of my role models include, Gandhi, Joan Baez, and Amilcar Kabral.

Do you ever visit the tree you sat in?

Julia:  I go visit Luna once to twice a year.

What do you feel is the number one problem facing the world today?

Julia:   Our disconnected consciousness that makes us feel that we are separate from the Earth, each other, and our own selves, and not realizing the impact of every single choice that we make.

What advice would you give a young person who feels overwhelmed by all the problems in the world?

Julia:   Believe in YOUR Dreams and YOUR Power to change the world! Each and every one of us is powerful beyond belief. The biggest limit to our greatness, wholeness, and power is our limiting beliefs.

Have you ever been to Africa? If so, where did you go and what were your impressions?

Julia:   I have never been to Africa. I have however partnered with Wangari Matthai from Africa and supported the Green Belt Movement she started there.

How would you define 'activist'? Is there another term that you think more accurately describes people working towards a better world?

Julia:   I typically do not limit others or myself to definitions. My commitment is that each and every one of us live our lives with purpose, passion, integrity, and commitment to a world that works for all. Where our every thought, word, and action embody our vision of the world we want to live in. The vision of the world we wish to live in can only come alive through us‹through who we are BEING and what we choose to do from that place.

How did you deal with people who didn't understand your sitting in Luna for so long?

Julia:  I just love them and everyone for no reason, just because. I don't need to fix them or get them to agree with me. All I have ever needed to do is speak and act with love. From that place, there is incredible power, joy, and a place for us all to stand - even when we don't always agree.
