News Headlines Activity

Look at a copy of a recent local newspaper, magazine, or other news source.  What are the first few headlines? List them.

Now imagine there is a newspaper that is specifically about you.  Imagine that its pages only talk about what is going on in your life.  What would be the most important recent headlines of this imaginary newspaper? In other-words, if you had to summarize your life recently into newspaper headlines, what would they say?

For instance,

  • Bob Maguire recovers from a 3-day cold! Mother predicts he will be able to attend school tomorrow.
  • Jill Ann won soccer tournament yesterday in an exciting turn of events!
  • Tim Lee is expected to receive a bad science grade…he claims he forgot to study.
  • Lucia Rodney worries: her brother just joined the military.
