Travel Journal

Write a travel journal entry as if you were a visitor or tourist to your own town/city.  What would you notice about your area? What kinds of things would you see? What would you do first as a visitor? Who would you talk to? Describe the nature and animals you might see. Write using the first person.  For example, “Today I arrived in Salem, Oregon and the first thing I noticed were the tall trees…”

Now, write another travel journal entry as if you were a visitor or tourist to your town/city in 1904.  What would the area look like? How would it be different than it is today? What type of transportation would you have used to get there? What might people be talking about in town?  What would you do first as a visitor? Again, write using first person.
