Sandy Spring, Maryland, USA (Green Team)

This morning I arrived at the BWI airport in Maryland. I took a metro and two buses to get to Sherwood High School where I spent the afternoon working with the members of the Green Team.

The Green Team is a youth environmental club "dedicated to maintaining the health and beauty of mother nature locally, state-wide and internationally." It consists of twenty-five 9th to 12th graders at Sherwood High School in the small town of Sandy Spring Maryland (about 45 minutes from DC). The Green Team, the first environmental club at Sherwood, was founded in 2003 by David Bronstein.

All the Green Team members seemed excited about being paired with their sister-group in Yelapa, Mexico! We spent most of the afternoon filming a documentary about their school to send to Mexico. One of the members of the Green Team spoke fluent Spanish...which was great because he was able to narrate much of the documentary! All the Sherwood students gave very thoughtful answers to the interview questions and they wrote an insightful declaration which will be presented to the United Nations later this year.

Sherwood High School is really quite incredible school...very well maintained...large...with lots of elective programs and opportunities!

I look forward to being able to share information from Yelapa, Mexico with the Green Team!

Sincerely,
Jessica Rimington
