Escazu, Costa Rica- April 12th

Hola from Costa Rica!

Last night I arrived in San Jose, Costa Rica! I couldn't see much of the city because it was night... but I did see lots of lights, highways, the lighted signs of restaurants, and the inside of the nicely air-conditioned airport. The teacher and Roots & Shoots group leader, Jenny, picked me up from the airport. And we drove to Escazu (20-30 minutes) in her jeep.

Costa Rica is much warmer than the Boston area (where I flew from). At night time it was still in the upper 70s F.

Last night I basically just went to bed. I was very tired from a day of traveling. But, this morning I woke up to the sound of birds and leaves rustling as sunshine poured into the room in Jenny's house where I am sleeping. I even saw a humming bird...its wings beat so fast they were almost invisible. We ate a breakfast of eggs, salsa, and goat cheese...very good tasting! And, then off we went to the school...literally just down the street.

The Country Day School is very nice. It is nestled on a hillside that overlooks Escazu. Out the window, right now, I can see shadowy hills and a patchwork of buildings and houses.

At 9:10 am I meet the Roots & Shoots students who are connecting to the One World group at the Westwood Magnet Middle School in Virginia! Today they will be watcing the video from Virginia and opening up the cultural exchange package the Westwood students assembled!

It is 8:50am right now... so I better go!

More in the next few days!

Sincerely,
Jessica :)
