Yelapa, Mexico
For the next two weeks members of the Green Team from Sherwood High School in Maryland will be posting entries on their experiences visiting their sister-school in Yelapa, Mexico! Enjoy! -Jess :)
This morning as I was walking down the pathway to school, I noticed out of the corner of my eyes that the floor and walls seemed to be moving. It was hundreds of crabs scattering away from me on all sides! It rained yesterday, so they have all come out to lay their eggs in the ocean.
After I got to the school with the other Green Team members, we put on our work gloves, got out trash bags and went out in groups with Yelapan kids to pick up trash around the area. We ended up picking up about thirty bags full of trash! A man said that they only pick up trash like that once a year, so I guess thats why there was so much. It was fun for some Green Team members to work together with Yelapans while they picked up trash.
In the afternoon, the Green Team taught an English class at "La Prepa" the high school for Yelapa. We had fun playing pictionary and doing "interviews" with the Yelapan kids. We asked questions like "What do you want to do during the next 5 years?" and "If you could have a super power, what would it be?" Doing the interviews was one of my favorite activites because I got to know Marcos, one of the kids who goes to La Prepa, and other kids. After class, had even more fun playing volley ball with the Yelapan kids. I was actually a decent player, so I had a lot of fun. All of the Yelapan kids were really good because they play sports like every day for fun. Soccer is a favorite of course.
Well, I hope you have enjoyed my blog.
Best Regards,
Aurora
