Yelapa, Mexico
For the next two weeks members of the Green Team from Sherwood High School in Maryland will be posting entries on their experiences visiting their sister-school in Yelapa, Mexico! Enjoy! -Jess :)
Yesterday we went to Puerto Vallarta to shop, explore museums, engage in tourist activities, etc. It was such a different experience from shopping in Maryland. We had to take a boat to and from PV where as in Olney, if we were to go shopping we would either drive there or just take the metro. Once we were in PV, it felt like any other beach town in America. We then split up into two different groups, the more 'shopping' group, which consisted of Gillian, Fran, Kate, Luis, Mr. Avilla, and myself; and the 'less shopping' group, which consisted of David, Aurora, Michael, Sarah, and Mrs. Dinnerman. My group spent the whole day shopping, and it was fabulous. Shopping in PV was so different from any other shopping I'd ever done in Olney. We were able to barter and haggle, where as in Olney you can't. It was a lot of fun, and everyone was pleased with what they had bought. Fran and I had come up with a list of what we wanted the night before; what I came back with had maybe one item in common with what I had planned on getting. I didn't get shoes, but I did get a really nice bag. All in all, it was an amazing cultural and self-fulfilling experience.
