How important is education is your community?
Education means a better future. Every child expects an education and most take it for granted. On average, most children remain in school until high school. Unfortunately, some students drop out by high school or are sent to continuation school (an alternative school). Not everyone sees education as a priority.
Do the majority of young people in your community receive an education? Is it equal?
Yes, every student is required to go to school until age 18/graduate from high school. It is the law. Many students take advantage of our higher education system which includes community college (two year school), vocational school and four year universities. Our students feel that education for men and women is equal. However, they feel that education is not equal when it comes to a student’s economic background. Private high school’s receive more one on one attention from teachers and are more competitive. College is expensive and many students feel they do not have enough finances to attend some of our top expensive private Universities.
Do you feel education is some regions of your community could improve?
Our school has unfairly earned a bad reputation which does not reflect the students who attend school here. It takes a long time to get rid of that bad reputation but we are trying.
How could you help achieve UN Millennium Development Goal 2?
Teach the benefits of higher education and have guest speakers with real life experiences explain to the students the benefits of staying in school and doing well.
