Student Work

Walnut High School of Walnut, California, USA

SEE---In our community, pregnant women have excellent care.  They are available to most everyone in the community, since we are relatively all middle to upper middle class.  However, in such cities as Los Angeles, were class divisions are sharper, people can be given less quality care for not having insurance.  It is however illegal to deny something medical attention.

Family planning is a must.  It is even a joke that women know how many children they want, their gender, and their names long before they even have a boyfriend.

Teen pregnancy occurs rarely, and is a great stigma.  The general consensus is that teenagers should know better than to have children so young.  The aspired-to-life after high school is not parenthood, but college and a good job.

REFLECT---We have good quality of maternal health.

To improve maternal health, the best tool is education.  The problem is that education takes time to break through long established barriers in thinking to new ideas.

Really, we cannot think of how to improve maternal health more than its current state. It would do more to raise awareness of the conditions in other areas, and direct attention into spreading knowledge among women who do not have the same opportunities.  This could be presentations on the effects of drinking and smoking on unborn children.  We would also link this to the gratitude Walnut residents should feel for having access to the care than ensures healthy moms and babies.

Perfect Youth Group of Arusha, Tanzania

In your community,do pregnant women have access to adequate medical care? Are these Services available to everyone regardless of socio-economic status?

Yes they do get but it is not sufficient services in some places, According to the Government’s policy” Every Pregnant Woman should get all Maternal health as quick as possible” But in Some hospital, this is not working, due to poor services.

The Services should be for everyone, but this law is ignored but some hospitals much Corruption is needed, If you don’t have money for paying for that you can not be able to be treated as how the government recommended.

How is family planning handled in your community?

Now days Everyone understand the concept of Proper Family planning, this came after the Influence of Many NGO’s which provide education to the society. So now atleast people understand the meaning of Family Planning.

Does teen pregnancy occur in your Community? Would you say this is a common occurrence?

This is a very big Problem in our society, Because it lead to some of kids be chasing out of school and misses their Classes forever, Also it lead to the Family misunderstand.

It also lead to death whereby when they are trying to do Abortion that’s occur.

REFLECT

The quality of maternal health seems to be very poor.

ACT

-More Education should be given to people and government workers; on top of that we should get Volunteers from outside our country so that they should exchange Ideas and make this service Improved. So on that way we could be able to Achieve UN Millennium Development Goal.

Can you think of the Project you and your peers might be able to design and Implement in your Community in order to help reach Goal 5?

We think the project which we can create is: “CHEAP DISPENSARY FOR PREGNANCY WOMEN” Whereby it will provide services with AffordablePrice so as to make the Project sustainable.
