Who: The Miracle Corners of the World Trust Songea Education, Health & Youth Housing Community Village

Where: Songea, Tanzania

Vision: The vision for MCWT’s Songea Site is to

build a strong and growing core of youth leaders in Songea’s community by empowering them as individuals and teaching them how to help themselves better their lives by offering courses and hands-on program participation in life skills training,  leadership and entrepreneurship

The Songea Education, Health and Youth Housing Community Village is a daily school geared toward students of all ages Its primary goal is to promote all young people in self sustainability and to provide affordable education. The preschool program starts at 7:00am – 12:00pm, Monday to Friday. We enroll children aged 3 – 6. Computer classes take place everyday; students have options to choose hours for classes.

English/French Language classes starts from 10: am- 1:00pm and 3:00 – 5:00pm (Monday to Friday) Entrepreneurship is a special program for women and Youth club members, an individual may participate if she/he makes a special request. Also the Youth and women clubs provide free sports, agriculture skills,  art and crafts, leadership skills and entertainments. Each and every August a group of Doctors from USA come to provide free dental treatment at the site.

Challenges: Songea is a rural and impoverished district.  Most of its inhabitants make their livelihood through subsistent farming.  Education in this community is not a priority, nor is learning English/Computer.  Most children in Songea only attain a standard seven level of education, which is the  equivalent to seventh gradein the United States.  The agricultural infrastructure is basic, which means that the local people do everything associated with farming by hand.
